Varioptic Adds Avago Technologies’ Image Sensor to Its Range of Autofocus Solutions for Camera Phones

24/10/2006

MONTEREY, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Varioptic of Lyon, France today announced that the company is working with Avago Technologies to market an innovative AutoFocus solution dedicated to Camera Phones. Based on Avago’s new 2MP image sensor and Varioptic’s ARCTIC 416 autofocus liquid lens, this solution is immediately available for camera module makers to quickly develop and integrate high performance, low profile 2MP autofocus products.

The need for autofocus camera modules from 2MP onward continues to gain momentum: end users are expecting their camera phones to deliver digital still camera-like image quality. The development of new applications, such as 1D and 2D bar code reading, face recognition and business card scanning, is also adding to this demand.

Avago’s ADCC-4050 is a one-quarter inch optical format, 2 megapixel CMOS camera-on-a-chip featuring the enhanced-performance (EP) pixel architecture and image pipe processing technology. The ARCTIC 416 is Varioptic’s latest autofocus product, designed to fit low footprint camera modules, especially suitable for the current trend of slim camera phones.

“The high sensitivity of Avago’s low profile 2 mega pixel ADCC-4050 with its built-in autofocus firmware enables the ultra-fast ARCTIC 416 to capture and print sharper and truer images under all lighting conditions,” said Feisal Mosleh, director of worldwide marketing and support for the Mobile Imaging Business at Avago Technologies.

John Barber, VP Business Development for Varioptic, said: “We are delighted to work with Avago Technologies to deliver such a high performance solution. Our newly developed product will bring fine-tuned solutions that our camera module OEM and ODM customers can fast-track to market.”

Varioptic will be attending Future Image 6Sight Conference in Monterey, Ca., from Monday October 23 to Wednesday October 25.
