Sofinnova Partners, leading investor for the 2nd Half 2007

12/11/2007

For the second time this year and the 9th time during the 10 last semesters, Sofinnova Partners is ranked as the most active French Venture Capital, both in French and European companies.

The 10 first investors still realize 50% of the investments and more

The high concentration of investments in the hands of the ten largest investors remains a reality again for this semester, although this percentage is reduced from 56% to 53%. Regarding the relationship between FCPI and other venture capital funds, we are seeing these first six months of the year to a reduction in the share of FCPI. They represent this semester 6 of the 10 most active funds against 7 the previous six-month period. With € 50.9 million invested this semester, the most active investor is Sofinnova again, who has held that position 9 times over of the last 10 semesters.

The champions of the early-stage
The features of early-stage financing and its importance in the chain of private equity lead us to establish a specific classification for the most active in this segment. The early-stage includes seeds and 1st rounds. This ranking, in terms of number of operations, is increasing  compared to the previous six-month period with 130 operations against 126 six months ago. 39 of the 50 funds who made an investment this semester saw at least one transaction in early stage during this semester, or 9 additional funds compared to the previous six-month period. Sofinnova binding on the fund again as the most active with 43 million invested over 24 operations.

In 1998, the fast developing French venture capital industry encouraged Chausson Finance to publish a reporting indicator on the sector in order to provide a clear snapshot of the activity.
Twice a year, the Chausson Finance Indicator highlights investments by French venture capital firms, both in French and European companies, featuring the ranking of the most active investors, number of financed companies, largest rounds, etc.
