INSIDE Honored for its Innovative Technology and Industry-Wide Recognition

Aix en Provence, France, June 29th, 2007 – INSIDE Contactless, a leading provider of open standard contactless chip technologies, today announced that Frost & Sullivan has awarded INSIDE with a 2007 Global Contactless Industry Innovation and Advancement Award.  Frost & Sullivan has bestowed this award upon INISDE due to its innovative technology, and industry-wide reputation with partners and customers.

The Frost & Sullivan Awards identify achievements among companies, products, and executives that establish leadership positions in respective markets.  Frost & Sullivan’s proprietary methodology includes extensive market research; in-depth interviews with vendors and suppliers; customer feedback; and an analysis of market share and competitor revenue within a given industry.

INSIDE has been recognized for its outstanding NFC architecture.  The main challenge the mobile payments industry faces today is for a standards-based implementation of NFC that provides the interoperability needed to make the many make different players – such as handset vendors, content and application vendors, SIM card manufacturers, retailers, transport companies, and banks - all work together.  Frost & Sullivan believes that INSIDE is delivering the technology, and the leadership required to ensure security and leverage the mobile phone as a new form factor for intuitive contactless services.

“INSIDE’s technology complies with all international standards for communicating with contactless interfaces worldwide, and it also has the advantage of being the lowest cost and most versatile solution available today,” states Frost & Sullivan Research Analyst Nikita Seth.  “The industry as a whole recognizes how INSIDE’s products benefit the ecosystem, and the company’s SIM-friendly architecture, optimized silicon design, and mobile-friendly integration further differentiate INSIDE from the other participants that we have evaluated.”

“Frost & Sullivan’s recognition further validates our strategy, our development efforts, and our innovation leadership which are designed to move the contactless industry forward,” said Remy de Tonnac, CEO of INSIDE Contactless.  “Our MicroRead® technology plays an important role throughout the mobile payments, transport, access-ID and mobile communications industries - and we look forward to working with our partners and customers to bring this technology to the mainstream.”

INSIDE’s MicroRead technology brings contactless chips to mobile phones, PDAs or PCs, and enables them to operate as RF readers, or contactless smartcards.  Microread interoperates with all industry standards, such as ISO 14443 A&B, ISO 15693, ISO 1892, and it is the lowest-cost, and lowest-power solution on the market.

INSIDE initiated work on NFC in 1999 and has been recognized as a main player on this technology with its patents deemed essential to Near Field Communication (NFC).  For the last couple of years, INSIDE has worked extensively to define a new interface between the SIM card and the NFC chip – called the ‘Single wire Protocol’ (SWP), which interfaces with the SIM card to support ‘peer-to-peer’ communication, data capture functions, and card emulation functions, such as ticketing and mobile payment transactions.

Early this year INSIDE also announced a cooperation agreement with Infineon to promote an NFC architecture. The cooperation aims to combine INSIDE’s NFC capacities and Infineon’s secured connectivity technology to bring banking services to the mobile handset.  INSIDE is also working closely with leading industry groups like the Smart Card Alliance and the NFC Forum to deliver products that comply with contactless ISO standards.  To date, INSIDE has obtained 55 patents with major ones relating to the NFC arena.
