Esmertec Joins the Open Handset Alliance

Esmertec continues its commitment to enable the ultimate user experience on mobile handsets as a founding member of the Alliance

DUEBENDORF-ZURICH, Switzerland - November 5, 2007 - Esmertec™ (SWX: ESMN), leading edge provider of software platforms, applications and services to communications device manufacturers and mobile telecom operators, today announced its membership and participation in the newly created Open Handset Alliance. The Alliance, a global organization initiated by 34 mobile industry leaders, is an important step towards opening new horizons in the mobile space. Together, the alliance has developed Android - the first, complete, open and free mobile platform to - offer consumers richer mobile experiences.

Esmertec shares the Alliance's vision to enable innovative and easy-to-use solutions for mobile end users and has actively contributed its OMA applications (DRM, IM, MMS, SyncML and WAP) to this initiative. To support the success of the platform, Esmertec will offer a full range of services around these OMA applications. Beyond Open Source of Android, Esmertec's leading edge Jbed™ Java™ Virtual Machine (JVM) platform can easily be made commercially available per customer request for the Alliance 's mobile platform. This offers immediate and seamless compatibility to the standard Java ME world leveraging thousands of existing Java ME applications. Finally, Esmertec also offers a full range of integration and development services for the Android platform, which will help current and future players in the mobile value chain to reduce integration time, ensure operator compliance, and deliver enhanced multi-media functionality on new handsets quickly and cost-effectively.
